Why homework is assigned
Homework is vitally important to any child’s school success.  It is a time for your child to review and practice important skills learned in the classroom.  Not only does it reflect the concepts that students are learning, but it also gives additional practice for difficult skills.  Homework also encourages responsibility and independence.
When homework will be assigned.
Homework will normally be assigned Monday through Friday.  Homework should take students no more than 30 minutes to complete each day, which includes reading.
Student’s homework responsibilities

Each week I will send home lightning words (about 3 minutes), spelling words (about 7 minutes), and fluency practice (about 5 minutes). In addition, I will send home a leveled reading book home daily. Your child should have little difficulty reading this selection. The goal is to provide a book that your child can read successfully in an effort to build confidence and a love for reading (about 10 minutes). Each student will be responsible for his/her own E.A.G.L.E. binder, which they will bring to and from school each day. Because I strongly believe in the value positive support plays in motivating students to develop good study habits, I will give each student a sticker on his/her homework chart.  When the chart is full, the student will be allowed to choose a reward coupon.
Parent’s homework responsibilities
Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children.  I would ask that you sign the reading  calendar sheet for each day, which is located in your child's E.A.G.L.E. binder.  If you have any questions or concerns please leave me a note in the pouch located in the E.A.G.L.E binder and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your support!
Mrs. Hanson
